Limitless Martial Arts

Kids Martial Arts Classes in Southampton

Limitless runs the most popular kids martial arts classes in Southampton - hundreds of children training each week across kickboxing, judo, BJJ, MMA and self-defence. Our curriculum is split into two core kids age groups (3-7 and 8-13), with even tighter mini age-bands (e.g. 3-5, 5-7, 8-11, 11-13) running on selected slots so kids train with peers at the right level. From 14+ they join our adult programme.

Benefits

Why our members train

  • Builds genuine, lasting confidence - not just a sticker on a chart
  • Develops focus, listening, discipline and respect for others
  • Improves coordination, balance, strength and fitness
  • Teaches age-appropriate self-defence and bully-prevention
  • Burns off energy so they sleep better and concentrate at school
  • Belt and stripe progression keeps them motivated long-term

What to expect in class

Classes are structured, fun and high-energy - never chaotic. Children learn fundamentals through games, pad work, partner drills and challenges, then earn stripes and belts as they progress. The two core age groups are 3-7 (play-based, skills-led) and 8-13 (proper technique and progression), with tighter sub-groups like 3-5, 5-7, 8-11 and 11-13 running on selected days. From 14+ kids step into our adult classes. Our timetable changes regularly as we add and improve sessions - always double-check the Onyx app for the latest schedule and the exact age band for each class.

New to martial arts?

Southampton's leading children's martial arts academy

If you're looking for kids martial arts in Southampton, children's kickboxing in Southampton, kids BJJ, kids judo, kids karate or just a really good after-school activity, you're in the right place. Limitless Martial Arts has been the city's leading children's martial arts academy for years, with classes running every weekday afternoon, evenings and weekends from our Empress Road facility (SO14, five minutes from the city centre, free parking).

Families travel in from across Southampton and Hampshire - Shirley, Bitterne, Portswood, Bassett, Woolston, Hedge End, Eastleigh, Romsey and Totton - because we offer something genuinely different: a full-time, full-service martial arts academy where children can train multiple disciplines under one roof, with progression that lasts from age 3 all the way through adulthood.

Age-grouped kids classes that actually work (3-7, 8-13, 14+)

One of the biggest mistakes most kids martial arts clubs make is grouping a 5-year-old with a 10-year-old. We don't. Our kids curriculum runs in two core age bands, with even tighter sub-groups on selected days:

• Ages 3-7 - play-based, skills-led sessions focusing on coordination, listening, taking turns and the very first martial arts movements. Lots of games, lots of energy and proper structure. On certain slots we run tighter age-specific classes (e.g. 3-5 and 5-7) so the very youngest train with kids at exactly the right stage.

• Ages 8-13 - proper technique work in kickboxing, BJJ, judo, MMA and self-defence. Kids earn stripes and belts, learn to fall safely, learn to defend themselves, and learn to compete (only if they want to). We also run specialist 8-11 and 11-13 sessions so older juniors get more challenging drills and sparring.

• Ages 14+ - teenagers train in our adult kickboxing, boxing, BJJ and MMA classes, with coaches keeping a close eye on safety and pace.

We're constantly evolving the timetable as the membership grows, so the exact age splits and class times do change - please always double-check the Onyx booking app for the latest schedule before you turn up.

Kids kickboxing, BJJ, judo, MMA & self-defence

Most kids start with kickboxing in Southampton - it's the most accessible, the most fun, and the easiest way to burn off energy in a structured way. From there, many add a grappling art: kids BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) and kids judo teach control, leverage, falling safely and how to defuse a situation on the floor - exactly the skills children actually need when things go wrong at school.

Older kids often progress into kids MMA, blending the striking, takedowns and ground game into a complete martial arts skillset. And every class - regardless of discipline - weaves in age-appropriate self-defence and anti-bullying conversations, because confidence on the mat is meant to translate into confidence in the real world.

Confidence, focus and anti-bullying through martial arts

Parents often arrive worried about a specific issue: their child is being bullied, lacks confidence, can't sit still in class, struggles to make friends, or just spends too much time on screens. Martial arts is one of the few activities that hits all of these at once. Children learn that they can do hard things. They learn to listen to a coach, take feedback, fall down and get back up. They make friends with kids who are different from them. And they slowly, properly, develop the kind of confidence that means they don't need to fight in the first place.

We don't promise miracles in a week - but parents tell us, almost every week, that they're seeing real changes within a couple of months. School reports improve. Sleep improves. Behaviour improves. That's the whole point.

Safe, DBS-checked coaching

Safeguarding is non-negotiable. Every coach at Limitless is DBS-checked, first-aid trained, and operates under a published safeguarding policy. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and watch every session - there's a viewing area at the side of the mats. Class sizes are managed so that each child gets attention. If you ever have a concern, you can speak to the lead coach directly or contact our designated safeguarding lead in confidence.
