Where can I train kids martial arts classes in Southampton?
Limitless Martial Arts runs kids martial arts classes in Southampton at our full-time SO14 facility on Empress Road, five minutes from Southampton city centre. Classes are beginner-friendly, coached in person, and available as part of the free 7-day trial.
Southampton's leading children's martial arts academy
If you're looking for kids martial arts in Southampton, children's kickboxing in Southampton, kids BJJ, kids judo, kids karate or just a really good after-school activity, you're in the right place. Limitless Martial Arts has been the city's leading children's martial arts academy for years, with classes running every weekday afternoon, evenings and weekends from our Empress Road facility (SO14, five minutes from the city centre, free parking).
Families travel in from across Southampton and Hampshire - Shirley, Bitterne, Portswood, Bassett, Woolston, Hedge End, Eastleigh, Romsey and Totton - because we offer something genuinely different: a full-time, full-service martial arts academy where children can train multiple disciplines under one roof, with progression that lasts from age 3 all the way through adulthood.
Choose the right age group for each discipline
Our youngest kickboxing groups introduce movement, listening and taking turns. Junior sessions build technical skills, while teenagers may have junior, teen or mixed-age options depending on the discipline.
The upcoming timetable shows the exact session name and age range. BJJ and judo do not necessarily use the same groups as kickboxing. Do not assume that turning 14 means joining an adult class: ask the coach about the appropriate next group.
If your child is between groups or has additional needs, contact us before booking so we can discuss a suitable first visit.
Kids kickboxing, BJJ, judo, MMA & self-defence
Most kids start with kickboxing in Southampton - it's the most accessible, the most fun, and the easiest way to burn off energy in a structured way. From there, many add a grappling art: kids BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) and kids judo teach control, leverage, falling safely and how to defuse a situation on the floor - exactly the skills children actually need when things go wrong at school.
Older kids often progress into kids MMA, blending the striking, takedowns and ground game into a complete martial arts skillset. And every class - regardless of discipline - weaves in age-appropriate self-defence and anti-bullying conversations, because confidence on the mat is meant to translate into confidence in the real world.
Confidence, focus and anti-bullying through martial arts
Parents often arrive worried about a specific issue: their child is being bullied, lacks confidence, can't sit still in class, struggles to make friends, or just spends too much time on screens. Martial arts is one of the few activities that hits all of these at once. Children learn that they can do hard things. They learn to listen to a coach, take feedback, fall down and get back up. They make friends with kids who are different from them. And they slowly, properly, develop the kind of confidence that means they don't need to fight in the first place.
We don't promise miracles in a week - but parents tell us, almost every week, that they're seeing real changes within a couple of months. School reports improve. Sleep improves. Behaviour improves. That's the whole point.
Safe, DBS-checked coaching
Safeguarding is non-negotiable. Every coach at Limitless is DBS-checked, first-aid trained, and operates under a published safeguarding policy. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and watch every session - there's a viewing area at the side of the mats. Class sizes are managed so that each child gets attention. If you ever have a concern, you can speak to the lead coach directly or contact our designated safeguarding lead in confidence.
